Asya Amaranthus has slightly different social rules than real wolf packs (this is semi-fantasy, after all). Here's a list of the ranks and some information on them. They're organized in the order of highest to lowest rank.
Alphas:
The absolute leaders of the pack. It is not a democracy, it is a dictatorship.
Betas:
The Beta pair is the Alphas' second-in-commands. There are only ever two of these wolves per pack at any point in time, and they are always a mated pair.
Elders:
The oldest [and, generally, wisest] pack members. In the Stone Pack, a group of Elders called the Bonekeepers acts as matchmakers, holders of tradition, and advisors to the Alpha pair, and is ranked equally with the Betas.
Hunters:
Pretty simple: they are entrusted with providing the pack's food and supplies. This is the general population of the pack, as the pack has enough members that only a fraction of the hunters will be on duty at any given time.
Den Mothers:
Pregnant non-alpha females, and/or females who care for the pack's pups. They generally spend their time in and around the nursery.
Omega/s:
The lowest ranking wolf or wolves in the pack. They often have to struggle to get enough food, and are generally disrespected by the rest of the pack. It is possible for an omega to gain a higher rank, though not probable.
Loner/s:
A wolf that has no pack, through some circumstance or another, but is seeking a pack to join. If a loner enters pack territory without permission, he/she will certainly be gravely injured if not killed.
Rogue/s:
Similarly, a wolf without a pack. However, unlike a loner, a rogue does not desire to join a pack. Rogues are often considered dangerous and untrustworthy, and like a loner, will be at best attacked or at worst killed if found within pack boundaries.
